Carson’s Lumbermill began custom sawing in 1986. We are proud to say we were one of
the first in southeastern Indiana to own and operate a portable Woodmizer Sawmill.
Since that time we’ve cut over 2 million board feet of lumber. We are currently on
our fourth Woodmizer and cut an average of over 100,000 board feet per year. Without question, our sawmill is the foundation of Carson’s Lumbermill. It is utilized in every aspect of our operation.
Custom sawing is a service we offer to customers who have their own logs and want them sawn. The sawmill is capable of handling logs up to 20 ½ feet long and 36 inches in diameter. Our staff will be glad to work with you to determine how much lumber to expect from each log and to discuss the size of the boards you want to acquire. We will then cut each log to obtain the highest yield possible. Allowances must be made for waste and defects such as rot, knots and cracks.
All of our custom sawing is done at Carson’s Lumbermill. Customers are responsible for getting their logs to us. We do make exceptions for larger projects within a 30 mile radius that have a minimum of 2000 board feet to be cut. If these conditions are met we will bring our sawmill to your location, if requested, and saw them at your site.
Carson’s Lumbermill maintains a large inventory of logs at our mill in a variety of species that can be cut to meet your specific needs. We also stock a large selection of lumber, both air dried and kiln dried.
For anyone embarking upon indoor projects, our onsite kiln enables us to offer kiln dried lumber. We do keep an assortment of dried lumber on hand. If we don’t have it in stock, we’ll cut and dry whatever you need to meet your individual requests. In addition to the ‘typical’ lumber, Carson’s Lumbermill also caters to woodworkers looking for those ‘unique’ cuts of wood. We often come across unusual pieces like curly or spalted lumber with very distinctive characteristics. We also keep slabs with exceptional features that could be used for mantels or cut for other uses such as turning. These items are put aside and made available
to customers working on special projects.
Carson’s Lumbermill also keeps on hand a supply of air dried lumber. We have an array of different lengths, widths and thicknesses to choose from. If we don’t have what you need we also cut green lumber to order. The building pictured on this page is ours and a perfect example of our capabilities. From the posts and rafters to the poplar siding, we cut everything ourselves with the exception of the trusses for the center section of the building. So whether you need barn siding, fence posts and rails, beams, trailer decking, side rails, bench seats, handrails, pallet lumber and more, we’ll be happy to cut what you need to meet your individual requirements.
